Beginning Art (5-7 years)
Monday 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm
Tuesday 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm
An introductory level art class that introduces students to a variety of art materials and traditional mediums appropriate for this age level. This class is designed to encourage the creative process through guided instruction that emphasizes the process as well as the product. From painting to making a collage, students will be engaged in projects that provide opportunities for learning and expression in a creative manner.
Level I Art (8-10 years)
Thursday 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm
This class is designed to allow the creative process in a class setting, putting emphasis on the process as well as the product. The class further develops the use of a variety of art materials provides opportunities for the students to explore the materials in a creative way. Students will experience collaging, painting, and composing art pieces to advance their skills with guided instruction.
Level II Art (Placement)
Thursday 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
This class continues to develop the student’s technical and artistic growth through project work. The emphasis is upon creating individual projects tied to the monthly theme that are matched to the student’s artistic ability and sensibility. This allows students to explore in depth the mediums and techniques that speak to their individual artistic vision. Students must have completed an Art Level I class or have permission of the teacher.
3D-Art (8+ years)
Wednesday 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm
This class is an introduction to materials and concepts in 3-D art. Students will look at examples of sculpture and draw inspiration from past and present artwork. They will learn about the purpose 3-D art has in different frameworks, whether it be traditional or modern, cultural or conceptual. The projects are developed around different styles of sculpture, and are open for personal creativity and design. The final month of the class are an exploration into personal style, in which ideas from both past and present are combined to create personal artistic vision.
Painting Basics (10+ years)
Tuesday 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
This class is designed for students who wish to improve their skills in painting as well as to understand the basic use of the painting materials and concepts of art through a variety of class projects. Students at this level will gain an understanding of the elements and principles of art and begin to compose their work using this knowledge. Students will learn how to mix colors, and gain an understanding of creating a successful composition.
Multi-Media Drawing (12+ years)
Monday 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
This class is designed for the student who has demonstrated the understanding of basic drawing skills through a variety of materials including graphite, pen, and pastel. Students will be introduced to the foundations of drawing and a variety of drawing techniques including the elements of composition, movement with line, illusion of depth in the drawing and positive/negative composition.
Water Color Basics
Monday 2:00-3:30 pm (Sept. 22-Nov. 14, 8 week course)
This class is designed for the adult student who has desired to paint, but has not had the opportunity to explore this desire, or had to interrupt their painting due to other obligations. Painting can be experienced at any age and the class is designed for the basics of understanding how to handle materials, easy projects, and building technical skills in a safe and inviting environment. Projects will include wash techniques, wet-in-wet, wet-in-dry, creating highlights, texture and effects, and painting from the still life.
