Julie Isom – Visual Art Instructor

Julie Isom Julie Isom is an installation artist,  painter, art explorer, teacher, and a community volunteer who has lived and worked in Conway for twenty-five years.

Before graduating in 2013 with a BFA from the University of Central Arkansas, Mrs. Isom completed her first nternship at Blackbird Academy of Arts under the direction of artist Amy Ness.  Julie Isom completed a second internship with installation artist, and founder of Knitta Please!, Magda Sayeg in Austin, TX.

She has been an active volunteer in Arkansas and Faulkner County since 2006. Highlights of her work in community activism include working with the City of Greenbrier during their annual KidZ Camp, volunteer for the Arkansas Arts Center’s summer children’s camp, donating artist for Empty Bowls Benefit/ Arkansas Foodbank Network, ArtsFest, and the Conway Alliance for the Arts (CAFTA).

Julie is credited with the public art installation, Caboose One, 2013 (found fiber art, mixed media) in Conway’s Simon Park, and also for ArtsFest’s yarn bombing event in Simon Park, Knitt-a-Cycle, 2010 (recycled motorcycle embellished with knitted material, in collaboration with artist Julee Jaeger).

Julie joined Blackbird Academy of Art’s teaching staff in 2014.
