Art Classes for Homeschool

Kinder Art (Kindergarten)

This class focuses on the process of creating art while also learning proper use of materials.  The class introduces line and pattern, colors, collages, self-portraits and clay art in a safe environment that emphasizes individual creativity and exploration.  Projects in each class are designed to help the student connect ideas to artistic expression.  This class has an annual art supply fee of $30.  Students enrolled will participate in Blackbird’s annual spring gallery art show.

 Intro to Art (1st-2nd Grades)

An introductory level art class that introduces students to a variety of art materials and traditional mediums appropriate for this age level.  This class is designed to encourage the creative process through guided instruction that emphasizes the process as well as the product.  From painting to making a collage, students will be engaged in projects that provide opportunities for learning and expression in a creative manner.  This class has an annual art supply fee of $30.  Students enrolled will participate in Blackbird’s annual spring gallery art show.

General Art (3rd-5th Grades)

This class is designed to allow the creative process in a class setting, putting emphasis on the process as well as the product.  The class further develops the use of a variety of art materials  and provides opportunities for the students to explore the materials in a creative way.  Students will experience collaging, painting, and composing art pieces to advance their skills with guided instruction. This class has an annual art supply fee of $30.  Students enrolled will participate in Blackbird’s annual spring gallery art show.

Intermediate Art (6th-8th Grades)

This class continues to develop the student’s technical and artistic growth through project work.  The emphasis is upon creating individual projects tied to the monthly theme that are matched to the student’s artistic ability and sensibility.  This allows students to explore in depth the mediums and techniques that speak to their individual artistic vision.  Additionally, through a survey of art movements from around the student will also be introduced to the historical and cultural contributions art has made to our world.  This class has an annual art supply fee of $30.  Students enrolled will participate in Blackbird’s annual spring gallery art show.
